![]() ![]() It's what makes his arc quite tragic in the end: he is unable to stop the terror that he sees in his visions. The combination of the spice, his mentat (and Bene Gesserit) talents and his bloodline is what makes him the 'Kwisatz Haderach'. Except that the Jihad 'in his name' will always happen with billions of casualties as a result, which is why he is afraid. His mentat-capabilities combined with the spice induced visions would enable him to 'accuratly' predict what is going to happen in the future but the visions themselves are still various possibilities of the future. I've always thought it was implied that Paul's Mentat training factored in. The books don't really go in exact details of how it all works. The Sardaukar were never as threatening as they should have been (outside of their introduction), the Fremen weren't as dominant as they need to be to fit into the Paul Jihad, and I'm kind of wishy washy headscratching on how/if they'll straighten things out in the sequel. And the Fremen with Paul et al in the ecology center all presumably die despite getting the jump on the Sardaukar. And Duncan Idaho ends up taking down probably 10-15 singlehandedly throughout the movie. Yes, this is where 40k Space Marines came from.Īnd then when they meet the Fremen in combat, the Fremen go, "Eh, not bad for a bunch of junior varsity losers." I want to say the line in the book is something along the lines of there being a fight between a roughly equal bunch of Sardaukar and Fremen, and afterwards when the Sardaukar are all dead, Stilgar's like, "Oh yeah, they were good fighters, they managed to kill 3 whole Fremen." Because thousands of years on Arrakis have forged them into basically perfect fighting machines, and they just completely punk the Sardaukar and give Paul an unbeatable weapon for waging war across the galaxy. I am honored to present two such explosive talents on screen and I can’t wait to shoot the second part of Dune to get them back together knowing that in the next chapter Zendaya will be the protagonist of the story. In the book, the Sardaukar are supposed to be the strongest warriors in the Imperium, an elite of the elite army raised from birth to psychotic murder zealots, forged in the furnace of a nearly inhospitable prison planet. ![]() ![]() ![]() However, that day, she impressed me and when she left the studio I knew that Chani was her, the young desert tiger. “Zendaya wanted to audition and today, after shooting the film and seeing what a wonderful actress she is, I’m sorry I auditioned her. “When I did the casting for Chani’s character, I met a lot of actresses,” Villeneuve told La Repubblica back in August. Zendaya’s character, Chani-one of the Fremen of the desert planet Arrakis who appears in the visions of Paul Atreides ( Timothée Chalamet) and returns toward the end of the film-comes to the fore later, guiding and protecting Paul, and eventually emerging as the story’s romantic lead. Following the theatrical release of Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic, viewers have bemoaned the actor’s limited screen time ( seven minutes in a film that runs for 2 hours and 36 minutes), but fans of novelist Frank Herbert’s original source material have pointed out that the blockbuster only covers approximately two-thirds of the book. On October 2, it became official: Dune will be getting a sequel and it’s set to feature Zendaya in a much bigger role. ![]()
